can I get a degree at psychedelic u?

THIS IS NOT A “REAL” ARTICLE and I am not offering advice from my decades of experience with psychedelics. This article is about Psychedelic U, which purports to offer “a starting point for those new to psychedelics and for experienced psychonauts alike.” Psychedelic U is a project of the Lucid News website.

Lucid News’ home page claims to be “your information portal for all things psychedelic” and states that “Knowledge Is Power.” There is also a warning of sorts: “Psychedelic use can be profound sometimes, helpful other times, risky occasionally, and in rare cases dangerous. Know your psychedelics.”

The Lucid News page continues (with minor edits for this blog):

“We publish clear, fact-checked articles reviewed by top experts, as well as Lucid News editors. The articles include links to recommended resources for more detailed, vetted information. This site is now in public beta. It’s a living document, responsive to your feedback. Please send suggestions and corrections. New content modules are coming soon. Sign up for our newsletter to receive announcements and opportunities to be a part of this effort to make reliable information about psychedelics widely available.

More people than ever are curious about psychedelics, the substances—plants, fungi, and compounds—that create expanded states of consciousness. New research shows these substances could be promising medicines, particularly in conjunction with therapy. A central element of Indigenous spiritual practices since ancient times, psychoactive substances are now being embraced by other cultures to support personal growth, creativity, and a deeper connection to the divine.”

Psychedelic U versus the media

On another page, Lucid News describes Psychedelic U this way (edited for this blog):

“Most purported journalism occupies a blurry space between evenhanded, independent reporting and promotional content masquerading as real news or education. This is particularly true when it comes to best practices around psychedelic substances. Stories that speak to a specific movement or trend are often colored by the writer or publication’s relationship to the subject matter, while educational material might be filtered through the lens of a particular lineage or methodology.

Often in psychedelic media, the complete picture is not being presented. To varying degrees of transparency, too many articles are pay-to-play-sponsored content that appears educational and is not clearly labeled, but the main goal of which is to promote a company or biased perspective. The picture that’s being presented is not complete or well-rounded, but rather angled, either implicitly or explicitly. Our goal for Psychedelic U is to provide a thorough picture.

[Psychedelic U is] intended to serve as a go-to resource for everything you wanted to know about psychedelics—including science, therapeutic applications, policy, culture, spirituality, and best practices. Psychedelic U functions as a hub to shepherd the audience toward a greater fluency in psychedelia.
